action

The young gentleman Johnny observes the starry sky during his rendezvous with the attractive student Pam, when they suddenly witness the crash of a meteorite-like celestial body. Together they drive to the approximate location of the impact, where Johnny goes on a journey of discovery alone. He finds a strange container, but unfortunately its slimy contents, the "creep", jumps directly into his mouth and nests in the host's brain, where it reproduces. Meanwhile, his love affair becomes the victim of a previously escaped psychopath who kills her on the side of the road with an ax and later becomes the victim of a police officer who judges him in vigilante justice and buries him on the university premises.

27 years later. During a party on campus, shy Chris Romero falls in love with attractive Cynthia "Cindy" Cronenberg. To get closer to her, he decides together with his best friend James Carpenter "JC" Hooper of the same fraternity to join as his love interest. To prove their suitability, Brad, the leader of the association and still-friend of Cindy, demands a kind of test of courage from the two young men, for the fulfillment of which they need a corpse. In their distress, they accidentally rescue the preserved corpse of Johnny's in the university's high-security medical department, but flee in alarm when the lifeless body shows reflexes. At this point, the alien parasite , which preferentially attaches itself to the brain and reproduces itself there, attacks a laboratory technician who is present and apparently kills him.

Detective Ray Cameron from the homicide unit , whose ex-lover Pam once been victims of psychopaths is called while in medical school to two corpses. When he arrives, however, Johnny's corpse is missing, who in the meantime appears in front of Cindy's window as a walking undead. His head bursts and numerous parasites are released. Johnny's body remains. The infected laboratory technician passes the parasite on to a caretaker. The murders spark the worst fears in the traumatized investigator, especially since he was unable to properly process the events of 27 years ago. To make matters worse, the worm-like creatures initially spread quickly and unnoticed across the campus, attacking a number of people on the extensive grounds and waking up those believed dead, including the buried, half-decayed ax murderer. When it is liquidated, the police officers can discover the reason for the mysterious events: the creeps.

In the meantime, Chris and Cindy have gotten closer and they both decide to go to a dance event together. Before that happens, however, Chris, informed by the infected JC, visits Detective Cameron. Together they take on the fight against the deadly threat that turns those who carry them into bloodthirsty monsters. The only effective means is fire, which literally destroys the parasites. After a few skirmishes, they discover a large breeding ground of the beings in the basement of a house, which Cameron blows up with suicidal intent and thus prevents the spread. A disaster can thus be averted.

Alternative ending

  • At the end you see Chris and Cindy in front of a burning house while a small infected dog approaches. Cindy bends over to him as he opens his mouth and a creep jumps straight into the camera (and probably infects Cynthia).
  • Similar to the other version, you see Chris and Cindy in front of a burning house at the end, but this time in a tender togetherness. The fire brigade approaches. Unbeknownst to the hustle and bustle, the charred figure of Cameron wanders down the street and falls. Several “creeps” then escape from the skull into an adjacent cemetery.
In the last scene you can see the spaceship from the beginning of the film searching in vain for its missing cargo that accidentally crashed to earth in the cemetery.

Reviews

“The zombie fun unrestrainedly parodies various horror and sci-fi classics and uses the names of their directors for the characters. Genre fans will be very happy. "

- Cinema

"Despite or perhaps because of its low budget, the remarkably well-written and well-thought-out film proves to be an intelligent, imaginative and self-parodistically inflated homage to the more absurd B-movies of the 40s and 50s."

- film feed

"The horror film, which focuses on hideous and disgusting effects, shamelessly exploits the primal fears of illness and death and has terrifying necrophilous features."

background

In 2007 a horror film with the title Night of the Creeps 2 - Zombie Town was produced, which is not a sequel in the true sense of the word, but is based on The Night of the Creeps .
