Homicide squad
A homicide commission (MK) is a police organizational unit of the criminal police for the investigation of capital crimes ( crimes against life ; e.g. murder and manslaughter ). It was called the Murder Investigation Commission in the East German People's Police .
It is set up for a specific case in which a homicide is suspected , or a riot commission is called, the head of which decides whether to take over the case.
The homicide squad consists of a commission head, a file manager, a crime scene team and several investigation teams. The investigators specialize in collecting personal, material or crime scene evidence ( securing evidence ) as well as investigations (e.g. case analysis ).
In some cases there is a small and large homicide squad , although there can also be several small or large homicide squads. The Great Homicide Commission could well consist of 20 investigators.
The main area of work is murders , which is why only highly specialized and specially selected law enforcement officers are active as detectives in murder commissions .
Homicides that have occurred as a result of traffic accidents are usually not dealt with by the homicide squad, but by the traffic commissioner .
Other people involved in the case, such as forensic doctors , police officers or public prosecutors are not part of the homicide commission, but are closely involved.
