Demon Knight ( Tales from the Crypt Presents Demon Knight or Demon Knight is a) American horror film of Gilbert Adler and Ernest Dickerson from the year 1995 .

action

There are seven keys to the entrance gate of hell that God scattered throughout the universe. The demons spent millennia trying to find six of these keys. The seventh key is on earth. He is protected from the attack of demons with the blood of Christ.

The key on earth is in the care of a guardian who cannot die of natural causes, but who can be killed. During the First World War , the guard Dickerson, who fought as a soldier, hands over the key to his comrade Frank Brayker.

About 90 years later, in New Mexico , Brayker is pursued by a demon known as The Collector . Brayker comes to a city where he meets the young woman Jeryline, the prostitute Cordelia and her boyfriend Roach, among others.

The demon kills some people while trying to get the key. Brayker is also killed by the demon, but he gives the key to Jeryline beforehand. Jeryline drinks some of the sacred blood and spits on the demon, which explodes.

Reviews

James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that horror films should be terrifying, or at least "a little shocking". In this case, it is just scary that the film has been produced. He is bad, foolish and unintelligent. The special effects are "acceptable", but not the work of the make-up experts.

Edward Guthmann wrote in the San Francisco Chronicle of January 13, 1995 that he found the film “stupid”, but that he had liked the film at the age of twelve. Guthmann praised Todd Masters' special effects and Billy Zane's portrayal of "style" and "wit".

David Kronke wrote in the Los Angeles Times on January 13, 1995 that the plot was pointless, halting, and non-intrusive. The director tries to compensate for these weaknesses with special effects; his work is "competent". Billy Zane seems "seductively funny" in his role, Jada Pinkett Smith brings a depth into her performance that there is no trace of in the script.

Awards

The film was nominated for the Saturn Award for Best Horror Film in 1996 .
