Gary Farmer

Gary Farmer (born June 12, 1953 in Ohsweken , Ontario ) is a Canadian actor .

Life

Gary Farmer was born in Ohsweken, Six Nations Reservation, as a member of the Cayuga people .

Farmer starred in many Canadian and American film and television productions. He was best known for his role as Nobody in Jim Jarmusch's film Dead Man . He was named Best Actor by the American Indian Film Festival in San Francisco twice, in 1989 for the role of Philbert Bono in Two Cheyennes on the Highway and in 1997 for Dead Man . In 1997 he was also voted Best Actor by First Americans in the Arts in Los Angeles , also for Dead Man .

In 1993 he founded Aboriginal Voices , a magazine for the development of indigenous art and culture, and was editor until hiring in 1999. He is also committed to Indian culture as the founder and director of Aboriginal Voices Radio , as well as organizer of cultural festivals.

Gary Farmer is also active as a musician and filmmaker.
