action

Cowboy Ray Dokes is released after serving a two-year prison term. He returns to his hometown and wants to lead a quiet life there. Dokes gets into the entrepreneur Sonny Stanton, who wants to buy the farm of his indebted friend Pete Culpepper to build a golf course . Etta Parr, a former friend of the cowboy, is fighting against these plans.

Dokes meets the jockey woman Chrissie, whom he gets closer. A ten million dollar racehorse is stolen from the entrepreneur. Stanton urges many local residents to sell their farms to him. Dokes devises a plan to stop Stanton.

Reviews

Philip Marchand wrote in the Toronto Star on January 25, 2008 that Brad Smith followed the well-known formula with "the utmost accuracy . " The plot is still "reasonably convincing" and the pace is "tight" . The story is as “thin” as an episode of a television series ( “The only problem is that the story feels slight - more like a prolonged episode of a television series than material for a full-blown movie” ).

David Nusair wrote on Reel Film Reviews that the film offers impressive representations and breathtaking camera work in places , but that something would be missing that could keep the viewer interested for more than a few minutes at a time. The plot is too "winding" , the characters are not developed enough. Kirby's portrayal is effective, but this would destroy the weaknesses of the unconvincing character.

backgrounds

The film was shot in Alliston , Fort Erie and Hamilton, Ontario . Its production cost was estimated to be 5 million Canadian dollars . On September 11, 2007, the film was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival , which was followed by several other film festivals. It was shown in a movie theater in the United States in 2008 and otherwise released on DVD.
