The program won the Critic's Award and the BBC Festival Recommendation . In 1992 he also performed No Cure For Cancer in the USA. In 1993 No Cure for Cancer was also released on CD. The sarcastic "Asshole" song was released as a single and got Leary a lot of attention. No Cure for Cancer was shaped by Leary's biting, hectic comedy style, his chain smoking and alcohol consumption on stage. He also addressed his strict Catholic home, relationships with his father and children, and his father's death.

Lock 'n Load

In 1997, Leary's second stand-up comedy program Lock 'n Load was released as an album. It was also filmed and released as a TV special by HBO . He made himself over to numerous celebrities such as B. Michael Flatley or Marv Albert funny. In addition, Lock 'n Load was even more influenced by Leary's family life and home. He discussed raising children and life as a husband.

Movie and TV

With his great success on stage, Leary made the leap to film . With his friend, the director Ted Demme , he made the films Who's the Man , No Panic - Good hostages are rare and Monument Ave. Demme was also responsible for Denis Leary's television specials. Rescue Me

From 2004 to 2011 Leary produced the television series Rescue Me , which is about life in a fire station in the New York City Fire Department that lost several members in the September 11, 2001 attacks . The series deals with the emotional life of the surviving firefighters and relatives. Leary developed and produced the series and also took on the lead role as firefighter Tommy Gavin , who lost his cousin in the attacks and is now struggling with the consequences of the loss. For this role he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for the first time in 2005 .

The role of Tommy Gavin was strongly autobiographical. Leary himself lost a cousin in a warehouse fire in his hometown of Worcester, in which a total of six firefighters were killed. In 2000 he therefore founded the Leary Firefighter Foundation , with which he supports firefighters to this day. The Leary Firefighter Foundation became particularly active in New York after the attacks of September 11, 2001 and in New Orleans after the catastrophe caused by Hurricane Katrina .

During his time with Rescue Me , Leary returned to his roots as a stand-up comedian during breaks and organized the Rescue Me Comedy Tour twice , which also featured actors from the series. During the second tour, Comedy Central filmed a special for a DVD release called Douchebags and Donuts .

Sirens

After Leary was in front of the camera for Spider-Man , he took on another series project after the end of Rescue Me . He stayed true to his genre and produced the series Sirens , a remake of the comedy series of the same name from Great Britain, at the center of which is a group of paramedics. In contrast to Rescue Me , Leary only worked behind the camera as a producer and writer this time.

The series was discontinued in 2015 after the 2nd season.
