South Central - In the Streets of LA is an American gangster film from 1992. It is a film adaptation of the 1987 novel "Crips" by Donald Bakeer.
action
After killing a competing drug dealer and then escaping the law, gangster Bobby Johnson is sentenced to 10 years in prison. During his incarceration, his son Jimmy grew up in South Central and, like his father, became a member of the gang called Hoover Street Deuces . Bobby's best friend is gang leader Ray Ray. He induces little Jimmy to commit crimes until he is shot and seriously wounded after stealing a car radio. When the news reaches Bobby in prison, he distances himself from the gang because of feelings of guilt. A racist prison gang finally tries to attack and rape the defenseless Bobby. A Muslim group takes Bobby under their protection and begins to convert him.
After his release, Bobby wants to dissuade his son Jimmy from belonging to the gang. But as soon as he got home, he received the information that his son had been torn from his unfit and drug addicted mother by the state and placed in a youth home for criminals. Jimmy, who has meanwhile escaped from the youth home, goes into the arms of Ray Ray in order to jointly take revenge on the man by whom he was critically injured.
During the search for his son, he finally finds him along with Ray Ray and Jimmy's tormentor, who is being held hostage in Ray Ray's warehouse for execution .
reception
"Captivating, authentic milieu drama."
