My Girl 2 - My love ( My Girl 2 ) is an American film comedy by Howard Zieff from the year 1994 . It is a sequel to the tragic comedy My Girl from 1991.
action
The action takes place in 1974, two years after the first part ( My Girl ). Vada Sultenfuss, now 13 years old and in the middle of puberty, still lives with her father, undertaker Harry Sultenfuss, and her stepmother Shelly in Madison, Pennsylvania. With Shelly's pregnancy and her future role as a big sister, Vada wants to learn more about her past and her birth mother, who died shortly after Vada's birth. When she is asked to write an essay about a person she admires, her decision is made. She persuades her father to let her over to LA over the Easter break to find out more about her mother.
Arrived in LA, Vada comes to live with her uncle Phil, who now works in a car repair shop and "found the love of his life there": Rose. Phil lives with her and her 13-year-old son Nick above the workshop.
Phil persuades Nick (with the help of cash) to accompany Vada on her research. Even though Nick is initially upset about having to spend his vacation with Vada, he supports her in her endeavor. With the help of an old yearbook, Vada finds old friends of her mother, such as the photographer Stanley Rosenfeld or her best friend, Hilary Mitchell. It is Hilary who brings Vada to her mother's boyfriend at the time, Jeffrey Pommeroy, whom Hilary takes to be Vada's father. Confused, Vada drives to him and lets him tell her mother's story.
The holidays are over now and Vada has to go back home. At the airport she is said goodbye to her uncle Phil, his girlfriend Rose and Nick. Nick has secretly hidden a present in Vada's backpack, which she should not open until she is on the plane. When they say goodbye, the two of them kiss.
Once at home, she first drives to the hospital, where Shelly has meanwhile given birth to Vada's little brother.
Reviews
James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that the film was just like its predecessor a "light comedy" as well as an "occasionally manipulative" film drama. The film cannot win awards, but is what sequels should be - it continues telling the story without being redundant.
The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was "atmospherically dense", "calm and discreetly staged" and "sensitive in the character drawing". He offers "above-average entertainment".
Awards
Anna Chlumsky won the Young Artist Award in 1995 . Austin O'Brien and Roland Thomson were nominated for the Young Artist Award.
background
The film was shot in Los Angeles and in Claremont ( California turned). It grossed approximately $ 17.36 million in US cinemas .
