Nicholas Caradoc Hoult (born December 7, 1989 in Wokingham , Berkshire , England ) is a British film and theater actor .

Life

Hoult is the second youngest of four children born to Roger Hoult, a pilot , and his wife, Glenis, a music teacher . His older brother James and his younger sister Clarista (* 1992) are also active as actors.

The choirboy attended the Sylvia Young Theater School , a renowned London drama school , and has appeared in plays such as Swan Lake and The Nutcracker at the Royal Opera House . Hoult has been in front of the camera in various British TV series since 1996 , but it wasn't until the feature film About a Boy or: The Day of the Dead Duck with Hugh Grant at his side that made the then twelve-year-old known in 2002.

In 2005 he played a supporting role alongside Nicolas Cage in The Weather Man , and in 2006 he got a role in the motion picture Streets of London - Kidulthood . From 2007 to 2008 he played Tony Stonem in the British drama series Skins - Hautnah on E4 .

In 2009 he starred in one of the lead roles in the drama A Single Man , the directorial debut of fashion designer Tom Ford . In 2010, Hoult played a supporting role in the film Clash of the Titans . Nicholas Hoult was also the face of several advertising campaigns for Tom Ford's collections in 2010. In 2011 he took on the role of Dr. Hank McCoy / Beast in X-Men - Prequel X-Men: First Decision and 2014 and its sequel X-Men: Future is Past and 2016 in X-Men: Apocalypse . In 2013 he starred as Zombie in Warm Bodies and as Jack in Jack and the Giants .

In his private life he likes to play basketball and can play the trombone . From 2011 to August 2014, Hoult was dating the American actress Jennifer Lawrence , whom he met while filming X-Men: First Decision .
