action

Young infantryman Matt Ocre joins the US Army to help finance his studies. After a short time, however, he is repulsed from everyday military life and tries to evade service by breaking his hand himself. But shortly after the hand has healed, his unit receives the order and is transferred to it during the Iraq war .

After a US helicopter mistakenly destroyed a water pipe in the village of Baquba , his unit was given the task of repairing it. After initial difficulties, the soldiers are able to win over some Iraqis to help with the repairs, but local resistance fighters want to prevent cooperation. From one day to the next, Ocre slips deeper and deeper into the senseless killing and dying of war.

In the end, Ocre is a seemingly empty shell that just wants retribution. But Ocre's superiors send him back to the United States by plane.

History of origin

The content of the film is based on the experiences of author Chris Roessner, who was deployed as a machine gunner in the Iraq war. His script was on the black list in 2012 (list of unfilmed scripts).
