Commonwealth
British Army
The Staff Sergeant the British Army (abbreviation SSgt ) has the NATO Code rank OR 7 and is the fourth rank NCO ( "non-commissioned officer") of the British Army. The usual salutation is "Staff Sergeant" or "Staff" for short , but never "Sergeant" , as this salutation belongs to a lower rank.
Within the British Army there are additional designations for this rank:
- In the Royal Marines and in the infantry regiments of the British Army, the rank is Color Sergeant . This is also addressed with the full rank or briefly with "Color" (or "Colors" for the Royal Marines), but also never as a "Sergeant" .
- In the case of the two regiments of the Household Cavalry , the rank is "Staff Corporal", this is addressed as "Corporal-Major" by higher rank and "Sir" by subordinates .
In the Bundeswehr this rank corresponds to the main sergeant , in the Austrian Armed Forces it is roughly equivalent to the staff sergeant .

Singapore
The Staff Sergeant of the Singapore Armed Forces (abbreviation SSG ) has the NATO rank code OR-8, but is also the fourth non-commissioned officer rank ("Specialist Ranks") of the Singapore armed forces. As in all armies of the Commonwealth, the usual salutation is "Staff Sergeant" or "Staff" for short , but never "Sergeant" as this salutation belongs to a lower rank.
In the Bundeswehr this rank corresponds to the staff sergeant , in the Austrian armed forces it is roughly equivalent to the senior staff sergeant .
