Searchlight Pictures (before being renamed Fox Searchlight Pictures ) is a sister studio of 20th Century Studios , whose subsidiary it was prior to the partial takeover of 21st Century Fox by Disney . Founded in 1994, the studio specializes in British and independent films. Furthermore, so-called dramedies and horror films are produced with a relatively low budget.
Well-known Fox Searchlight films include a. Black Swan , Juno , 28 Days Later , (500) Days of Summer , Shape of Water , Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Slumdog Millionär . The latter earned the studio an Oscar for best film for the first time .
