Twenty-First Century Fox (branding as 21st Century Fox ) was an American media company based in New York City . It was created through the split and name change of the News Corporation and disbanded in March 2019 as The Walt Disney Company bought large parts of the company. The parts Disney did not buy rebranded as Fox Corporation .

In the Forbes Global 2000 of the world's largest companies, 21st Century Fox ranks 198th (as of fiscal 2017). The company had a market value of around 70 billion US dollars in mid-2018.

history

Twenty-First Century Fox was founded in 1979 under the name News Corporation . On June 28, 2013, she divided her loss-making print media into the newly founded News Corp. out. The part of the company in which the film and television business as well as pay television remained, became the Twenty-First Century Fox .

On December 14, 2017, the planned sale of parts of the 21st Century Fox to Disney was officially announced. Disney wanted to take over 20th Century Fox and Sky plc , among others, for a sum of $ 52.4 billion . When Comcast made a higher bid, Disney raised its bid to $ 71.3 billion. The US competition authorities granted approval subject to conditions. The European Commission also examined the takeover from the point of view of the Merger Regulation . The news and some national sports channels are to be split off from 21st Century Fox before that. In November 2018, approval was granted on the condition that Disney sell its shares in European channels such as A&E Germany , History and Crime & Investigation . In March 2019, Disney acquired large parts of 21st Century Fox for $ 71 billion. As a result, the film studio 20th Century Fox and various Fox television stations went to Disney, but not Sky, as it was taken over by Comcast in 2018.

Divisions

Prior to the Disney and Comcast acquisitions, Twenty-First Century Fox Inc. was divided into cable, feature film and entertainment, television, and direct broadcast and satellite television.
