action

Johnny and Adam are two surf-loving teenagers who live in Los Angeles with their father Mac . Two weeks before Johnny's 16th birthday, the teenagers are attacked by ninjas. However, these are defeated by Zatch, a mysterious Asian with an eye patch. In another attack, Mac is kidnapped, but Zatch manages to protect the youngsters and their friend Iggy from the ninjas. Zatch submits to Johnny and Adam that they are the missing royal sons of Patu San Island, whose monarchy was overthrown by the evil Captain Chi when they were little. It is her fate now to return to Patu San, overthrow Chi and free the people. Together with Iggy, Zatch and Ro-May, a princess from Patu San, the teenagers set out to free the island from the clutches of the dictator.

Johnny is trained by Zatch in a hidden cave for upcoming fights. Together with the inhabitants of a village destroyed by Chi, Johnny and Zatch manage to defeat Chi's troops and free Mac. It comes to the final fight between Johnny and Captain Chi, which Johnny wins with the support of Adam by pushing Chi into a body of water, where the dictator is electrocuted. As a result, peace returns to Patu San. Johnny announces that the monarchy will be dissolved and the island should operate as a democracy from now on.

Reviews

James Berardinelli said on ReelViews that the title alone does not lead to expect "solid" entertainment, but the film is "far worse" than one imagines. Berardinelli criticized the “ridiculous” gags as well as the “poorly coordinated” stunts and scoffed that the film could just as well be called Leslie Nielsen's search for a quick paycheck .

Richard Harrington described the film in the Washington Post on August 21, 1993 as "harmless" entertainment for a young audience who could also enjoy Turtles and 3 Ninja Kids . Harrington praised Ernie Reyes Jr. but found Leslie Nielsen "sleepwalked" through the film.

The lexicon of international films judged: "An overloaded spectacle made of set pieces from relevant genre films, which burns down its gag fireworks quickly and in the second part hardly has anything original to offer."

Kino.de wrote: "Lively martial arts adventure for young people with" Police Academy "hammered humor."

background
