John Karlen

John Karlen (born May 28, 1933 in Brooklyn , New York City , New York - † January 22, 2020 in Burbank , California ), actually John Adam Karlewicz , was an American actor .

Life

Karlen had her first roles in US television series from 1957 . Between 1959 and 1965 he appeared in various Broadway productions , including two original productions by Tennessee Williams and 1963 in Bertolt Brecht's The Stopping Rise of Arturo Ui . He gained notoriety from 1967 in his role as thief Willie Loomis in the ABC Vampire - Daily Soap Dark Shadows . By 1971 he worked in 182 episodes of the series, in which he impersonated Willie Loomis and other characters in parallel universes and other centuries within the series. He also starred in the 1970 film based on the series The Castle of the Vampires .

Following the end of the series, he played in a few horror films , as well as guest roles in various series formats. In 1982 he got a supporting role in the crime series Cagney & Lacey , which he played in 124 episodes to the end of the series and for which he was awarded the Emmy Award in 1986 : He played Harvey Lacey , the friendly and down-to-earth husband of Tyne Daly played policewoman Mary Beth Lacey . In the 1990s he repeated this role in several series specials, while at the same time ending his film and television career. His work includes more than 100 film and television productions.

Karlen was married to Betty Karlen from 1963 until the divorce in 1998; he had a son named Adam from their marriage, born in 1966. He died of heart failure in January 2020 at the age of 86.
