Melissa McCarthy
Melissa Ann McCarthy (born August 26, 1970 in Plainfield , Illinois ) is an American actress , television director , film producer and screenwriter .
Life
Career
Melissa McCarthy began her career with stand-up appearances in New York City , where she also took acting classes at the Actors Studio at the same time . After moving to the film metropolis of Los Angeles , McCarthy joined the sketch troupe The Groundlings Main Company , which gave her the opportunity to perform weekly. Since 1998 McCarthy has also played small roles in films again and again; she was seen in the theatrical version of Charlie's Angels and alongside Kevin Spacey in The Life of David Gale . In 2000 she got the role of the eccentric cook Sookie St. James in the hit series Gilmore Girls , which she played until the end of the series in 2007. In the sequel from 2016, she was seen in an episode.
From October 2007 she starred alongside Christina Applegate in the sitcom Samantha Who? With. From September 2010 to May 2016, McCarthy played the lead role of Molly in the series Mike & Molly . For this role, she received an Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy Series in 2011 . In 2012 she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Megan in Bridal Alert .
On May 19, 2015, Melissa McCarthy was honored with a star in the Film category on the Hollywood Walk of Fame . It is the total of 2,552. Star on the Walk of Fame and it's in front of the TCL Chinese Theater IMAX at 6927 Hollywood Boulevard . In the same year she started her own fashion label.
McCarthy has been delighting American television audiences since spring 2017 with her parody of Sean Spicer , White House press secretary , on the satirical program Saturday Night Live .
Since Tammy in 2014, McCarthy has also appeared as a producer and executive producer for film and television. The film was also her debut as a screenwriter. As a director, she directed four episodes of the series Mike & Molly from 2014 to 2016 . The short film The Walmart Box followed in 2018 .
With an annual income (June 2014 to June 2015) of 23 million US dollars , she was at times the third highest-earning actress in the world after Jennifer Lawrence and Scarlett Johansson .
In 2019, McCarthy received a second Oscar nomination for her lead role in the biopic Can You Ever Forgive Me? . In it she plays the American author and con artist Lee Israel (1939-2014).
Private life
Melissa McCarthy is the cousin of actress Jenny McCarthy . McCarthy is married to actor and director Ben Falcone . The wedding took place on October 8, 2005 in Los Angeles. On May 5, 2007, she gave birth to their first child, a daughter. In March 2010 the couple had another daughter.
