action

Annie's bakery shop recently went bankrupt, and in her current job as a saleswoman in a jewelry store, she just pisses off customers. She is also unlucky when it comes to love: She has an affair with the superficial macho Ted, who wants her out of his apartment early in the morning after sex. Her best friend Lillian tells her one day that she will marry her boyfriend Doug and that Annie will be her maid of honor as her best friend. Annie meets the bridesmaids at Lillian's engagement party: Lillian's work colleague Becca, Doug's sister Megan, Lillian's cousin Rita and Helen, the wife of Doug's boss. Annie and the beautiful and wealthy Helen hate each other straight away. Both vie for Lillian's favor and try to outdo each other with speeches and singing at the party.

When Annie is driving home after the party, she is stopped by a police officer, Officer Rhodes, because her brake lights are out of order. Annie flirts with Rhodes and when he learns that Annie lives near him and was also the owner of the "Cake Baby" bakery he used to visit, he leaves it at a warning.

To discuss the hen party and bridal shower, Annie goes to a Brazilian restaurant with Lillian and the bridesmaids. During dinner, Annie suggests the motto “Paris” to the bridesmaids because Lillian has long wanted a trip there. Helen rejects this proposal as "sucked out". After dinner, the six women go to a bridal shop to choose clothes. In the high-priced and exclusive store they are only admitted through Helen's connections, which annoys Annie. During the dressing-on it becomes clear that the food from the restaurant was spoiled and that everyone but Helen is suffering from food poisoning. A battle ensues over the shop's only toilet, which Lillian loses.

Helen organizes a weekend in Las Vegas to celebrate the hen night. Annie, who suffers from fear of flying and is chronically broke, proudly rejects Helen's invitation for a ticket for 1st class and sits in economy class. To calm Annie down, Helen gives her pills shortly after the start and brings her a drink. Meanwhile, Megan talks to John, who she sits next to, who she thinks is an Air Marshal , and makes him clear offers. The interaction between the tablets and the alcohol made Annie completely out of control. The plane makes an unscheduled landing in Casper (Wyoming) and Annie's troops, accompanied by John, who is actually an Air Marshal, have to leave the plane. The weekend in Las Vegas falls into the water. The group goes back home on the bus. On the way, angry Lillian Annie withdraws the organization of the wedding. Helen should be in charge from now on.

Annie meets with Officer Rhodes and spends the evening and night with him. The next morning she abruptly leaves Rhodes as he tries to motivate her to bake. In the following days, Annie only loses her job at the jeweler after she pissed off and insulted another customer and is thrown out of the apartment by her flatmates, siblings Gil and Brynn. She temporarily moves in with her mother.

The bridal shower, organized by Helen alone, ends in a fiasco when Annie discovers that Helen has not only adopted the "Paris" theme proposed by Annie and rejected by herself as a motto, but also gives Helen Lillian a trip to Paris. Annie freaks out, destroys parts of the decoration and is then thrown out by Lillian. The bride explains that she doesn't want Annie with her at their wedding either. Annie drives home and has an accident because of the still broken brake lights. Nathan Rhodes records the accident and explains to Annie how badly she hurt him. Annie calls Ted, who has neither interest nor feeling for Annie's situation, picks her up from the scene of the accident and Annie clearly shows his purely sexual interest in her. Annie then asks Ted to let her out. She doesn't want anything more to do with him.

Annie spends the next few days in front of the television. Megan comes to visit her and brings her out of her depth. Annie bakes a special cake for Officer Rhodes that she puts in front of his door. Rhodes, deeply injured, simply leaves the cake in front of his door until the raccoons get it. On the morning of the wedding, Helen rings Annie's doorbell and asks her for help. Lillian has disappeared. Annie wants to ask Rhodes for help, but Rhodes is stubborn until Annie drives him into the back of the car. The policeman locates Lillian's cell phone and realizes that Lillian is at home. Annie and Helen immediately drive to Lillian's and Annie goes into the apartment while Helen waits in the car. The women speak out and Annie helps Lillian with the wedding dress from Paris, which the bride now finds terrible.

Annie becomes Lillian's maid of honor and the wedding ends with a performance by Wilson Phillips , who sing Lillian's favorite song Hold on . Helen and Annie reconcile after Doug and Lillian leave for their honeymoon. Rhodes, informed by Helen, is waiting outside for Annie and kisses her in greeting. He explains that he saved and eaten the cake from the raccoons and invites them to go on a mission with him.

Reviews

“In fact, the film is different - and far better - than what one might expect. In the thoroughly deserving Apatow comedies, sexually mature men behave like adolescent kids, women are pretty accessories. In Bridal Alarm, on the other hand, an adult, damn real-looking woman is driven insane with heart and brain by a childish environment. […] As far as the much-discussed female humor is concerned, it is simply good to know that there is still a huge gap between romantic comedy and the Gucci feminism of Sex and the City . If you can't make friends with both, you are spot on with bridal alarm . "

- Philipp Bühler - Berliner Zeitung

“Don't let the boring title scare you: this film is wild, dirty and mercilessly honest. Just as women loved hangovers , men will love bridal alarms. "

- Sophie Albers - star

“Women can do comedy, women can do comedy. A revolution? A late victory for feminism? [...] Excessive demands and inferiority, that is the material from which the drama of this film is formed, from the beginning, since the slapstick, the American cinema comedy has developed its drive. "

- Fritz Göttler - Süddeutsche Zeitung

“The funniest movie of the year? We put our money on bridal alarm . The US comedy about a maid of honor whose life is falling apart is rough, tender and hilarious at the same time. In the USA, that made the film a blockbuster - and leading actress Kristen Wiig a star. "

- Hannah Pilarczyk - Spiegel Online

“The bride who shits on the street has become the hallmark of this film, which is preceded by the reputation of the rough and vulgar, accompanied by a sharp scream - and that in a women's film! Because actually: purely from a technical point of view, to deliberately cite a more male category, bridal alarm is a "chick flick", a women's film of the worst kind. After all, it's all about a wedding. [...] The amazing thing is now that Brautalarm spite of these woman-centeredness, which is itself in romcom genre a rarity, now more grossed over 150 million dollars, the date of Sex And The City broke held record for a film of its kind. [...] As rough as the gags are, you can always tell bridal alarm one thing : It's a film that women like. "

- Barbara Schweizerhof - The daily newspaper

“Freaky comedy that doesn't shy away from embarrassment and especially likes to extend the disgust principle of the" comedy "style associated with producer Judd Apatow to women. The protagonists are portrayed as insecure, vulgar and unlucky beings. "
