Richard Riehle

Richard Riehle (born May 12, 1948 in Menomonee Falls , Wisconsin ) is an American actor .

Life

Riehle attended the University of Notre Dame , where he appeared in student performances of Antigone and Romeo and Juliet , among other things . After completing his bachelor's degree in 1970, he traveled to Europe and learned the German language in Salzburg and Innsbruck . After further studies at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Rochester, he played at the Meadowbrook Theater in Michigan. In 1976 he moved to the US West Coast and, after making his feature film debut in Joyride, joined the Screen Actors Guild alongside Robert Carradine and Melanie Griffith . However, his film career would not get going until more than a decade later. In the meantime, Riehle played theater and made his debut on Broadway in 1986 .

From 1989 Riehle received more and more film and television roles; he played alongside Michael Douglas in the thriller Black Rain and alongside Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington in Glory and had guest roles in Falcon Crest and Golden Girls . He played a major supporting role in 1992 on the side of Meg Ryan and Alec Baldwin in the comedy Bodyswitch . In the 1990s he had a supporting role in a number of blockbusters such as On the Run , Free Willy, and Lethal Weapon 4 . Since the beginning of the 2000s, he has played increasingly in smaller film and television productions and in 2007 had a recurring guest role in the soap opera Shadow of Passion .

With more than 180 appearances in movies and around 150 different television roles as well as around 50 other roles in short and video films and video games, Riehle is one of the most productive actors of his generation. He has so far not embodied a leading role in a television series apart from the sitcom No Mercy for Dad (2001-2005), with his role after the first two seasons from a main role to a recurring supporting role.
