On the other hand, there are occasional black and white sequences that depict the action from the point of view of normal people. In Germany the film was presented for the first time at the Fantasy Filmfest 2009 , in the USA in October 2007 as part of the Screamfest Horror Film Festival . The film was released in German-speaking countries on March 11, 2010 on DVD with the additional title Zombies are only people . in USA on October 19, 2010 under the title Aaah! Zombies !! The DVD version has also been shortened by 2 minutes.

action

A highly dangerous serum that turns people into zombies is the result of a failed military experiment designed to create super soldiers. However, this accidentally gets into circulation in a bowling alley, which is also Tim's workplace, and infects friends Mike, Vanessa, Tim and Cindy when they eat ice cream there. However, they are not aware of this and do not notice that they have become zombies, but rather wonder why other people either run away or even try to kill them after meeting them. In general, they feel like everything around them is happening much faster than normal and that they have now become stronger and more invulnerable, even after being shot. The friends finally meet Nick Steele, a US Army soldier who was also accidentally infected and who is now explaining the situation. At the time, they still think they are super soldiers and the others are infected. Together they try to track down the truth and gradually get used to their new situation. In the meantime, they are being pursued by the military, which is trying to contain the danger and brush the incident under the table. Nick Steele is eventually captured and informed that they are the zombies and not the others.

The four friends soon find themselves stranded in a bowling alley, where they are initially not bothered any further thanks to the level of drunkenness of the rest of the crowd. But then they are noticed as zombies and a massacre follows. Nick has escaped in the meantime and follows them to the bowling alley, where he also explains the circumstances to the four friends. Instead of giving up, as Nick initially does, the four friends reanimate their previous victims of the bowling alley by infecting them with the help of ice cream and motivating them to start a new zombie life. Using a ruse, they escape from the containment zone that has now been established, but are rediscovered a short time later. Mike, who now consists only of his head and one hand, sacrifices himself so that the rest can escape. In order to facilitate the further escape, Nick also wants to sacrifice himself, but is taken prisoner. The rest of them escape and continue to lead a “normal” life under these circumstances.

Reviews

The critics largely agreed that the film brought a funny new component into the game by showing it from the perspective of the zombies, but that this bonus was partially gambled away in the rest of the film due to the flat characters and jokes and the cheap design.

Awards

At the Screamfest 2007, where the film premiered, it won the audience award for best film.

It was also awarded as best film in 2009 at the Sitges Festival in the category Best Motion Picture MIDNIGHT X-TREME .
