occupation

No Mercy for Dad (original title: Grounded for Life , German: Lifetime House Arrest ) is an American sitcom . It was the first time in 2001 as a midseason -Replacement on Fox broadcast and abandoned in the fall of 2002 due to disinterest of the networks on the series again. The WB network then took over the series, where it was produced until the beginning of 2005 and broadcast until mid-2005. The series was first broadcast in Germany on ProSieben and later ran on kabel eins . Comedy Central has been broadcasting the series intermittently since March 2009. It's about a typical family in the United States and their problems. The setting is New York City , mostly Staten Island , where the family lives. The entire series thrives on showing several flashbacks in each episode, which explain the creation of the current situation of those involved.

action

The plot of an episode usually begins with someone noticing that one or more family members have a problem , which is often obvious. The person (s) begin (s) to unroll the plot in an analeptic manner, as a result of which more and more members of the family become entangled in the events. The influence of the past on the present is often humorous . It usually turns out who is to blame for something in particular, and that the parents are not always perfect either.

characters

Sean Finnerty is the father of the Irish Finnerty family and is actually the head. The father Finnerty is very irritable and can easily be driven insane by his children and his wife.

Claudia Finnerty is Sean's wife. It is supposed to represent the understanding part in the family, but it also often gets into difficulties and misunderstandings.

Eddie Finnerty is a strange fellow, Sean's brother, and seems to have ties to the Mafia. He is mostly calm and he solves problems in a very un orthodox and individual way.

Walt Finnerty is the grandfather and father of Sean and Eddie Finnerty. He's stuck in old ways and often doesn't understand the more modern way of Sean and Claudia.

Henry Finnerty is the youngest son in the family and is still very childlike. He often does not understand the simplest connections and often does something wrong as a result.

Jimmy Finnerty is the older of the two sons of Sean and Claudia and is in the middle of the early stages of his puberty , which is often not easy for the family and him.

Lily Finnerty is the oldest child and only daughter. The 16-year-old daughter of the Finnertys tries for many episodes of the series to get hold of a boy named Dean until she realizes that Brad O'Keefe, the annoying boy next door, is the one for her.

Brad O'Keefe is initially the annoying boy next door who always tries to get close to Lily until he manages to sleep with her on her birthday and thus gets together with her.

Mr. O'Keefe is the Finnertys' neighbor and loves to rival Sean.

Trivia

  • The original title “ Grounded for Life ” can be translated ambiguously. On the one hand, the title shows the content of each episode that, as in the German title, the father often struggles with problems, but is sufficiently "grounded", i.e. has enough life experience ( for life ) to always be around again, often with the support of the family, to find their way in the end. So you often find a "final word" that you can use for yourself to improve your life and in dealing with other people. On the other hand, “ Grounded for Life ” can also be translated as “lifelong house arrest”. Very often it is pointed out that Claudia and Sean became parents very young.
  • The series basement set was also used on the Bill Cosby Show .
  • The water tower from The Wild Seventies appears in the 21st episode of the second season. In this episode, Ashton Kutcher , who stars in The Roaring Seventies , has a guest appearance as cousin Scott. Other series colleagues from The Wild Seventies also have guest appearances on the series, but never appear together: Danny Masterson (season 2, episode 1), Mila Kunis (season 4, episode 28 and season 5, episode 1) and Wilmer Valderrama (season 3 , Episode 2).
