Peter Frampton (2006)

Peter Kenneth Frampton (born April 22, 1950 in Beckenham (London Borough of Bromley) , Great Britain ) is a British rock musician who had his greatest success in the 1970s.

Artistic creation

At the age of nine, Peter Frampton played guitar with The Truebeats group . The guitarist then became known as a member of the rock band The Herd . He played with Steve Marriott (of Small Faces ) on Humble Pie and on albums by Harry Nilsson and George Harrison . His first solo album was Wind of Change in 1972 . In addition to the guitar, he also played bass guitar, keyboards, sitar and drums.

Frampton's breakthrough as a soloist was the six-time platinum album Frampton Comes Alive! (1976) with the hits Do You Feel Like We Do; Baby, I Love Your Way and Show Me the Way. With this album he shaped his characteristic guitar sound by using the so-called talk box , an effect device with which he modulated his guitar playing through a tube in his mouth. After his next album I'm in You , Frampton had a serious car accident in the Bahamas . In 1978 he starred alongside the Bee Gees in the film version of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band ; the film was a huge failure.

In the 1980s Frampton returned to music, but could no longer build on his earlier successes. In 1987 he toured with David Bowie , whose school friend he was, and in the 1990s in Ringo Starr's All Star Band with Gary Brooker ( Procol Harum ), Jack Bruce ( Cream ) and Simon Kirke ( Free and Bad Company ). After playing at Grand Funk Railroad in 1997, the live recording of the concert in Detroit was released on DVD-Video and audio CD in 1999 . From 2000 he toured Europe again and again with Bill Wyman and the Rhythm Kings .

To mark the 25th anniversary of Frampton Comes Alive! the album was released in 2001 on double CD, SACD and also on DVD-Audio in the complete concert version with all the titles played at the time.

His more recent albums are Now from 2003 and Fingerprints , which was released in 2006. With the song Do You Feel Like We Do , Frampton performed in 2006 together with Ringo Starr in the biggest rock-pop concert in Los Angeles in front of 260,000 spectators. On April 27, 2010 his current album Thank You Mr. Churchill was released . In the summer of 2010, Frampton went on a US tour through several cities - partly together with Yes . At the beginning of 2011, Frampton started a European tour that took him to Germany several times. In 2013 he appeared as a special guest at the concerts of Deep Purple .
