Carey Mulligan
Carey Hannah Mulligan (born May 28, 1985 in London ) is a British actress .
Private life
Carey Mulligan was born in Westminster to an English hotel manager and a Welsh college professor. When Carey was three years old, her family moved to Germany , where her father ran the European branch of an international hotel chain. The family stayed in Germany for five years. She and her older brother Owen were attending the International School of Düsseldorf (ISD) during the time when she had a very good knowledge of German. Carey Mulligan lived only in expensive hotels for a total of eight years and, according to her own statements, developed into a shy girl who looked rather boyish up to the age of 15. Back in England she attended the Woldingham School .
During the filming of Wall Street: Money Doesn't Sleep , Mulligan began a relationship with fellow actor Shia LaBeouf , but they both ended in October 2010. In July 2011 she got engaged to Marcus Mumford , the front man and namesake of the British folk rock band Mumford & Sons . The two married in April 2012 and had a daughter in September 2015. The second child was born in September 2017.
Career
After starring in a production of Sweet Charity in her senior year at Woldingham School , she decided to give acting a try.
She got her first film role in the 2005 film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice (Original: Pride & Prejudice ) based on Jane Austen , in which she played Kitty Bennet. She then worked as a stage actress at the Royal Court Theater in London . She has guest roles in numerous British TV productions, including Waking the Dead , Bleak House and Doctor Who .
2009 Mulligan was for her performance in Lone Scherfig's movie An Education with the National Board of Review Award. In this drama, she slipped into the role of a schoolgirl from the London suburbs who was introduced to the cultural life of the British capital in the early 1960s and who began to rethink her future plans. For this role she received the BAFTA Award as well as a Golden Globe and Oscar nomination.
In the sequel Wall Street: Money Doesn't Sleep, shot by director Oliver Stone in 2009 , Carey Mulligan plays the main actor's daughter Michael Douglas in the female lead . In the film Drive by Nicolas Winding Refn , she played the leading female role alongside Ryan Gosling , for which she was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress. In September 2011 she began filming a 3-D remake of The Great Gatsby based on the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, directed by Baz Luhrmann .
This was followed by work on Inside Llewyn Davis , directed by Ethan and Joel Coen . In 2015, she starred as Maud Watts in Suffragettes .
