The school is forty minutes from London and twenty minutes from London Gatwick Airport.
history
Woldingham School is more than a hundred and forty years old and is a Sacred Heart School. The Society of the Sacred Heart was founded in France by Magdalena Sophie Barat . The first Sacred Heart School opened in Amiens in 1801 . After that many other schools were founded within Europe (later also in America).
Woldingham School (then called Covenant of the Sacred Heart ) opened in 1842 , but it was initially located in Berrymead , London, then Roehampton , then Newquay and finally Stanford Hall , until the school finally moved to Woldingham related. The reason for the changing locations was, among other things, the Second World War . For example, Roehampton was destroyed during an air raid and the school decided that a new location had to be found. In 1945 the school bought the Marden Park property and buildings.
building
There are four different buildings for different years. The 11 to 13 year olds live in Marden. They have a playground on their doorstep and large common areas. You can design your bedroom, which you share with three other girls, as you please.
The main house ( Main House ) is occupied by the 13- to 16-year-old. The bedrooms of year 9 are occupied by two to twelve people. In grades 10 and 11 you get double or single rooms. The girls here do their homework independently in their rooms. The schoolgirls also have more responsibility, they are the oldest in the main house and thus also supervise the 11 to 13 year old girls with their homework. In the main house you can find various libraries , the classrooms for English, math , geography and computer rooms .
The Sub-Primans (16-17 years old) have their own house called Berwick . The top prima lives in Shanley and the students receive preferential treatment because they are the oldest. The girls here have their own room with their own bathroom. The pupils are encouraged to get in contact with the teachers and are therefore allowed to join them in the lounge in the main building and chat over coffee, tea or cocoa.
Another building is the Millennium Center . Music, theater and history are taught here. There is a gym with a fitness room and a large sports hall for all sports. The school has a swimming pool and other sports fields, such as hockey , netball and basketball courts .
House system
A pupil at Woldingham School is assigned to one of the four houses Barat (yellow), Digby (green), Duschesne (red) or Stuart (blue). These houses organize various events and they hold house competitions in sports, music and also hold debates. There are also house fairs and house lunches.
