Margolit "Maggie" Ruth Gyllenhaal [ 'dʒɪlənhɑl ] (born November 16, 1977 in New York City ) is an American actress .
life and career
Maggie Gyllenhaal is the daughter of director Stephen Gyllenhaal and producer and writer Naomi Foner . Her brother is the actor Jake Gyllenhaal . The paternal family is of English and Swedish origin and belongs to the old nobility of Sweden; It was in 1652 ennobled . Her maternal family is of Lithuanian and Russian-Jewish origin.
Born in New York City, Gyllenhaal grew up mostly in Los Angeles , California , and attended school there. In 1995 she went back to her hometown and took up a degree in literature and eastern religions at Columbia University , which she completed in 1999 with a bachelor's degree. Gyllenhaal then moved to London , where she trained as an actress at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art .

Maggie Gyllenhaal has been married to actor Peter Sarsgaard since 2009 , whom she met in 2003 while filming the previously unreleased low-budget film In God's Hands . They have two daughters together. Also politically Gyllenhaal is regularly active. In 2005 it came under fire in the wake of some statements regarding the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 . She had blamed the United States for the terrorist attacks.
