Margolit "Maggie" Ruth Gyllenhaal [ 'dʒɪlənhɑl ] (born November 16, 1977 in New York City ) is an American actress .

life and career

Maggie Gyllenhaal is the daughter of director Stephen Gyllenhaal and producer and writer Naomi Foner . Her brother is the actor Jake Gyllenhaal . The paternal family is of English and Swedish origin and belongs to the old nobility of Sweden; It was in 1652 ennobled . Her maternal family is of Lithuanian and Russian-Jewish origin.

Born in New York City, Gyllenhaal grew up mostly in Los Angeles , California , and attended school there.
