1 The empty chair The Empty Chair 3rd July 2014 - 2.10 million -
29 years after she and her brother Ephra saw their father, an Israeli arms dealer, murdered before their eyes as children, Nessa Stein runs her father's London-based company. The company has since been rebuilt by her and specializes in setting up telecommunications infrastructure in and between Israel and Palestine. Due to her diverse charitable activities in the crisis region and her international economic success, she was raised into the British nobility and accepted into the House of Lords . Nessa is about to sign a major deal for another phase of expansion of Palestinian telecommunications. Both the long-time family friend Shlomo Zahary , who came from her father's time, and the influential Palestinian businessman Samir Meshal are potential contractors. To the displeasure of Shlomo, Nessa visibly tends to work with Samir. The CIA (through CIA agent Monica Chatwin ) and MI6 (through Sir Hugh Hayden-Hoyle, who is about to retire ) have an increased interest in the developments. Meshal surprisingly commits suicide. Nessa is unsettled by this act and unpleasant memories from the past arise in her. She was kidnapped in Gaza eight years ago . Another kidnapping occurs during Nessa's inauguration celebrations. Kasim , the son of the nanny Atika , who permanently looks after Ephra's daughter with the family, is kidnapped by a stranger. The kidnapping leads to a chase by Nessa, in which she is almost shot, which is prevented by the intervention of her bodyguard Nathaniel Bloom . Nathaniel is shot and the kidnapper manages to escape with Kasim.
2 The wrong partner The Unfaithful Husband July 10, 2014 - 1.54 million -
Ephra has been cheating on his heavily pregnant wife Rachel (apparently for a while) with the nanny Atika. While the investigation into the kidnapping of Kasim begins, Nessa receives a new bodyguard because Nathaniel has to stay in the hospital. Nessa is suspected of the new bodyguard and when she seduces him, she discovers that he is an MI6 agent set on her by Hayden-Hoyle. Hayden-Hoyle, on the other hand, is at least suspected by CIA agent Monica Chatwin, being exploited by his superior, MI6 boss Julia Walsh; in an opaque game that goes way back in time. The kidnapper, who is now also in the hospital, turns out to be Michael Gatz, a former secret service employee. Before the police can question Gatz, he receives a message on his phone that he has committed suicide. Hayden-Hoyle asks Samir Meshal's wife and lover about the possible reasons for his suicide. With the latter, he finds out that she is FBI agent Rebecca Lanthma and that she is lying to him. When Nessa receives a mysterious message with a sign of life from Kasim, she says to Atika: "You know."
3 A murderous call The killing call 17th July 2014 - 1.48 million -
An unknown caller asks Nessa if "her secret is safe". As a result, she suspects that Kasim's kidnappers are the same people who kidnapped her and Atika in Gaza eight years ago. Nathaniel, who has recovered, believes he has found out something about a conspiracy surrounding the kidnapper's suicide. Without Nessa's knowledge, but with the help of her private secretary Frances, he makes his own investigation, in the course of which he is killed. Rachel discovers that Ephra is cheating on her with Atika, is utterly disappointed in him and asks for a DNA test to make sure Ephra is not Kasim's father. The DNA test is negative. Hayden-Hoyles finds some interesting information in the file on Nessa and confronts her brother about it.
4th The harvest of the storm The ribbon cutter July 24, 2014 - 1.49 million -
In a flashback to 2006, after celebrating the birth of Rachel's first daughter Judith with her family, Nessa travels to the West Bank to open a university that her family foundation helped fund. The first phase of their telecommunications infrastructure project, for which Shlomo Zahary was awarded the contract, will also begin. When she arrives in the West Bank, she meets Atika, the interpreter assigned to her. When the dean of the university asks why the last donation of 1.5 million US dollars from the foundation had to be transferred to Gaza and Ephra cannot give her a satisfactory answer over the phone, she travels to Gaza with Atika to find out about herself to research. There they are brutally kidnapped by the henchmen of Al-Zahid in order to extort a ransom. Ephra seeks help from MI6 boss Julia Walsh, who coordinates with Monica Chatwin. Obviously, however, there are no successful negotiations. Nessa is sexually abused in captivity. Another narrative thread shows how disappointed Hayden-Hoyle's then wife, Anjelica, is with her husband's professional work. She accuses him of great character weaknesses. Back in the present, Nessa confronts her brother. He puts them under pressure with information he received from Hayden-Hoyle in order to finally find out whether Atika's longstanding statement about Kasim's father, namely that it was the driver of the kidnapping vehicle, is actually true.
5 Two hearts Two hearts July 31, 2014 - 1.32 million -
In 2006, Nessa was pregnant after being raped. The kidnapping of her and Atika dragged on for months, while Ephra became more and more desperate because he, in collaboration with Monica Chatwin, arranged a transfer of 1.5 million US dollars from the foundation in order to covertly pay ransom for an Israeli soldier . Nessa is promised that she will be released after giving birth. Provided that Atika is also released, she agrees. When they are released, Atika decides that it is better to claim that the baby is hers. Monica Chatwin meanwhile works on her career with questionable methods and forces Ephra to step down from the chairmanship of the foundation. In the present timeline, some secrets are revealed: Ephra learns from Atika that Kasim is Nessa's son, and Nessa reveals that the documents showing Shlomo Zahary contact with Hezbollah are forged. These alleged contacts were the reason why she preferred Samir Meshal for the second expansion phase of the telecommunications project. Likewise, Nessa realizes that Nathaniel, with the help of Monica, obtained incriminating material which appeared to be Shlomo allowing the fiber optic cables to be tapped by the secret service. Shlomo claims that he does not know about it. Rumors are also circulating that the Stein Family Foundation preferred former Israeli soldiers to Arab students in funding. For Nessa, for whom it was always the first priority to keep herself and the family foundation out of the dirty side of Middle East realities, this is all a wrong development.

Reviews

"In doing so, Blick avoids using flat anti-Israel polemics with his conspiracy constructs (although in the end a political stance becomes clear that not everyone shares). The opening credits, sound and image fragments, dipped in muted color, cite the American Showtime series Homeland as a model . "

"[...] the most satisfying TV series in years is an utterly gripping, triumphant realization of Hugo Blick's vision."
