Emily "Eve" Best (born July 31, 1971 ) is a British actress and theater director . She became known for her role Dr. O'Hara in the Showtime television series Nurse Jackie and as Wallis Simpson in The King's Speech .

life and career

Eve Best grew up in Ladbroke Grove, London, and attended Wycombe Abbey Girl's School before going to the University of Oxford to study English. At the age of nine she was already on stage with the W11 Opera Children's Opera Company in London. She made her debut as Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing , performed at the Southwark Playhouse.

She later continued her education at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, which she graduated in 1999. For her performance in 'Tis Pity Seh's a Whore , she won two newcomer awards, the Evening Standard and the Critics' Circle. She took her grandmother's first name as her stage name, as there was already an Emily Best in the British Actors' Equity Association.

Other roles followed on various major stages in London and New York. Among others at the Dort Theater, where she appeared with Ian McShane , Raúl Esparza and Michael McKean , or at Shakespeare's Globe Theater . There she made her directorial debut with a production of Macbeth . In the summer of 2014 she played Cleopatra in Antony and Cleopatra again at Shakespeare's Globe Theater.

She is known in film and television for her role as Dr. Eleanor O'Hara in the comedy series Nurse Jackie ( Showtime ). She played the Duchess of Windsor, Wallis Simpson , opposite Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush in The King's Speech . As Sally Ride, she starred in the BBC docu-drama The Challenger , which deals with the background to the Challenger disaster of 1986 , on the side of William Hurt .
