Nurse Jackie is an American television series about the nurse Jackie Peyton in the emergency room of a New York hospital. The main role of Jackie Peyton is from the Emmy - and Golden Globe Award -Gewinnerin Edie Falco played.

Jackie Peyton is married with two daughters and works as a nurse in a New York hospital. The series is about her family and the experiences of patients. Peyton works too much, has an affair with the hospital pharmacist, feigns a chronic back problem, is addicted to pills, and has trouble with his superiors.

The series is produced by Evan Dunsky ( CSI: Vegas ), Liz Brixius and Linda Wallem. It was broadcast on June 8, 2009 for the first time by the US television station Showtime in the 2009/2010 season; 12 episodes were ordered for the first season. The premiere on June 8, 2009 was watched by a million people (and over 350,000 in the rerun). It is thus considered the most successful premiere of a series for the pay-TV channel Showtime . Due to the success, the series was extended directly for a second season, which was broadcast between March 22nd and June 7th, 2010. On March 23, 2010, Showtime Nurse Jackie extended early for a third season, which aired March 28 through June 20, 2011. In May 2011 and May 2012, the series was extended by a fourth and fifth season. Production of the fifth season began in late 2012 and was broadcast on April 15, 2013.
In early June 2013, the series was extended by a sixth season, and Showtime ordered a seventh season before it began broadcasting . In September 2014 it was announced that the series would end with this seventh season. The last episode aired in the US on June 28, 2015.
