Edie Falco
Edie Falco (born Edith Falco in Brooklyn , New York City on July 5, 1963 ) is an American actress with Italian and Swedish roots. She is a Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner .
biography
Falco grew up in Northport, New York , a small town on Long Island , where she also graduated from high school. She then graduated from the State University of New York at Purchase .
She began her career with a few supporting roles in films such as The Summer of Our Dreams (1987), Suspicion of Love (1989) and Trust (1990). In 1993 she was nominated for Best Actress in the Independent Spirit Awards for her performance in Laws of Gravity (1992) . Her breakthrough came after guest roles in TV series such as Homicide and Law & Order with the role of "Carmela Soprano" in The Sopranos alongside James Gandolfini and Lorraine Bracco . For this she received two Screen Actors Guild Awards , three Emmys and two Golden Globe Awards . From 2009 to 2015, she starred the nurse Jackie Peyton in the hospital series Nurse Jackie .
In 2003 Edie Falco was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was undergoing chemotherapy . In February 2004, Falco learned that she had beaten cancer. Falco since 1993 dry alcoholic and supports the twelve-step program of Alcoholics Anonymous . In 2003 she was in a relationship with Stanley Tucci , whom she had known since college, for almost a year .
In March 2013, Falco got involved in a commercial for the animal welfare organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals PETA . She is a supporter of the Democrats .
Edie Falco lives in the West Village with her two adopted children .
