Sergeant Rex is an American biographical film drama from the year 2017 by Gabriela Cowperthwaite. It is based on the life of the young US Marines Megan Leavey and their real experiences with the bomb detection dog Rex. The title character is played by Kate Mara .

Megan Leavey serves as a U.S. Marine in a bomb disposal unit. She is assigned the aggressive military dog Rex. But she can build a special bond with him and together they complete numerous missions in Iraq. In doing so, they save many lives. After retiring from military service, however, Rex is not judged to be suitable for everyday use. Leavey has to fight to be able to take her dog.

The real-life Megan Leavey, who received multiple awards for her brave efforts, made a cameo as a drill sergeant.
