The Yankee Stadium is the baseball stadium of the New York Yankees . It is located in the south of the Bronx , a district of the US metropolis of New York City . It opened on April 3, 2009, replacing the old Yankee Stadium from 1923, which was demolished by May 13, 2010. The Yankees' home ground currently has 49,642 seats for baseball games. 27,528 to a maximum of 33,444 places are available for the games of New York City FC from Major League Soccer (MLS).

architecture

The architecture is based very much on the old stadium, so the facade is faced with granite like the old stadium . The metal frieze placed under the roof of the old stadium was also used again in the new stadium. The stadium interior is full of photos that tell the story of the Yankees. The Yankee Stadium also includes a cup and trophy room.

Monument Park II is also located in the stadium, where the most important personalities of the New York Yankees such as the player Babe Ruth and the long-time manager Ed Barrow were erected. Visitors can visit this memorial before each game, before it closes about half an hour before the game starts.

financing

The stadium was largely financed by a loan from the city. The money should also be refinanced through high ticket prices (2625 US dollars / game behind the home plate and up to 850,000 US dollars / season in a box). Despite the high prices, the first 20 games were sold out before the start of the season.
