The Comerica Park is a baseball stadium in the US city Detroit in the state of Michigan . The venue is the athletic home of the Detroit Tigers MLB baseball team . Inaugurated in 2000, Comerica Park currently has a capacity of 41,574 spectators. The construction costs amounted to 300 million US dollars .

history

Comerica Park replaced Tiger Stadium , which was home to the Tigers from 1912 to 1999. In close proximity to the park, Ford Field was built from 1999 to 2002 , home to the American football team of the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). The opening game took place on April 11, 2000 against the Seattle Mariners 5-2 in front of 39,168 spectators.

The facility is named after Comerica Bank , which was headquartered in Detroit when it opened. In 1998, the bank acquired the baseball park naming rights for $ 66 million .
