Bullpen
Bullpen , or “the pen” for short , is a baseball term . It is the area where the pitcher warms up before going onto the field. In the bullpen, the pitchers throw the ball into the glove of a catcher who is not involved in the game in order to throw in, to simulate the throws during the games and to practice again before the game.
The term bullpen is also a metonymy and describes all relief pitchers of a player squad as a whole. For example, the transfer of a new pitcher is described as “reinforcing the bullpen”.
