Andrij Walerijowytsch Pjatow ( Ukrainian Андрій Валерійович Пятов ; UEFA transcription Andriy Pyatov ; * 28. June 1984 in Kirovohrad ) is a Ukrainian football goalkeeper .

Career

Pyatov began his career in 2002 with his hometown club Vorskla Poltava . In 2007 he moved to Shakhtar Donetsk for around one million euros , where he replaced Bohdan Schust as the regular goalkeeper. In 2008 he got competition, as Donetsk strengthened with the goalkeeper of FK Kharkiv , Rustam Khujamov . This failed, however, in one of his first games, so that Pyatov could quickly regain his regular place. He consolidated this in the course of the season with good performances; especially in the European Cup, where they made it to the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup .

He was called because of the injury of the Ukrainian goalkeeper Oleksandr Schowkowskyj as a possible replacement in the squad of his home country for the 2006 World Cup , where he was not used because Schowkowskyj could ultimately play. Pyatov completed his first international match on August 22, 2007 against Uzbekistan . He has been Ukraine's first goalkeeper since 2008 and became the man of the game in the World Cup qualifier against Croatia (0-0) when he defused several good balls from Luka Modrić . From 2004 to 2006 he played 20 games for his country's U-21 team and was runner-up in 2006 . He showed his outstanding qualities especially in the U-21 European Championship qualification and it was also thanks to him that the Ukrainian youngsters only conceded 11 goals in this competition, including the play-off games against Belgium.

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was the goalkeeper in Ukraine's squad and was in goal in all three games against Germany, Northern Ireland and Poland until the team was eliminated.
