The FK Vorskla Poltava ( Ukrainian ФК «Ворскла» Полтава ) is a Ukrainian football club from the central Ukrainian city of Poltava . The club currently plays in the Ukrainian Premjer-Liha .
history
The club was founded in 1955 under the name Kolhospnyk . After the team changed the name several times in the meantime, the club was given its current name Worskla in 1984 . Worskla is the river that flows through the city of Poltava. In 1996 Vorskla Poltava rose for the first time in the first Ukrainian league and promptly reached third place in the table in the debut season. Since then, the team has not been relegated from the Premjer-Liha . In 2009, Vorskla won the Ukrainian Cup against Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0.
European Cup balance sheet
By winning the national cup in 2009, the club took part in qualifying for the 2009/10 UEFA Europa League . There the team failed in the play-off round at Benfica Lisbon with 0: 4 and 2: 1. Worskla Poltava also had the chance to qualify for the UEFA Europa League in the 2011/2012 season, defeating Glentoran FC and Sligo Rovers in the qualifying rounds and being able to take part in the tournament for the first time by beating Romanian representatives Dinamo Bucharest . There the team met in Group B on FC Copenhagen , Standard Lüttich and Hannover 96 and retired from the competition as bottom of the table after two draws and four defeats. In 2018 Worskla qualified for his second participation in the Europa League, this time directly as third in the Premjer-Liha table.

The club plays its home games at the Worskla Stadium , which is also called the Worskla Butowskoho Stadium in honor of Alexei Butowski , who was one of the founders of the Olympic Games .
