The FC Olimpik Donetsk ( Ukrainian Олімпік Донецьк ; Russian Олимпик Донецк ) is a Ukrainian football club from Donetsk . The club was founded in 2001 and plays its home games at the Olimpik Sports Complex in Donetsk. In the 2014/15 season , Olimpik Donetsk plays in the Ukrainian first division, Premjer-Liha .
history
The football club Olimpik Donetsk was founded in 2001 as an amalgamation of several regional clubs in Donetsk , the fifth largest city in Ukraine with a little over one million inhabitants and located in the east of the country. In the same year, the Olimpik Sports Complex was also set up as a venue for the newly founded club. The stadium initially held 1,000 spectators, but was expanded to 3,000 spectators after the surprising rise of Olimpik Donetsk to Premjer-Liha in 2014.
For the 2004/05 season, the club made the leap into the third Ukrainian football league for the first time, in which they then acted for seven years up to and including the 2010/11 season. In that same season, the club rose to the Perscha Liha , the second highest division in Ukrainian football, just in time for its tenth anniversary . There they managed to establish themselves and placed in the middle of the field in the first two years. In the 2013/14 season, however, Olimpik Donetsk was surprisingly strong. They finished the second division season in first place with a lead of three points over the second-placed PFK Oleksandrija , which meant the first promotion of the relatively young club to the Premjer-Liha.
