Vitaly Staruchin ( Ukrainian Віталій Володимирович Старухін , Russian Виталий Владимирович Старухин * 6. June 1949 in Minsk , Byelorussian SSR ; † 9. August 2000 in Donetsk , Ukraine ) was a Soviet football player .

Staruchin began his career as a footballer at the age of 11 in a school team in Minsk. After his military service, he first played for the team from Poltava in the Soviet second division.

In 1972, the dangerous center forward moved to Shakhtar Donetsk . With Donetsk he was Soviet runner-up in 1975 and 1979 and in 1980 Soviet cup winner . In 1979 Staruchin was the top scorer in the Soviet league with 26 goals . In the same year he was voted Soviet Footballer of the Year .

Staruchin completed his only international match for the Soviet national team on May 7, 1980 in Rostock against the GDR national team .

In 1981, Staruchin ended his career as an active player. In 217 league games for Shakhtar, he had scored 84 goals. After his retirement he was a youth coach at the Shakhtar Donetsk football school. Staruchin died in 2000 of complications from pneumonia.
