Oleg Pavlovich Kopayev

Oleg Pavlovich Kopajew ( Russian Олег Павлович Копаев ; born November 28, 1937 in Jelez , † April 3, 2010 in Moscow ) was a Soviet football player . The striker won the title of top scorer in the Wysschaya league twice .

Athletic career

Club career

Kopayev started his career at Spartak Yelets , but switched to ODO Voronezh at the age of 19 . His talent was noticed by higher-class teams. In 1957 he was ordered to the capital Moscow and joined CSKA Moscow . In the Wysschaja Liga, however, he was initially denied a breakthrough, so that he joined SKVO Lemberg after just one season . Again, he only played one season for the club.

At his new club, the SKA Rostov , Kopayev made the breakthrough. As a regular player in the club's storm, he established himself as a regular goalscorer. In the 1963 season he was crowned top scorer in the top Soviet league for the first time with 27 goals this season. In 1965 he repeated his success in the Wysschaya league, this time 18 goals were enough for him to become the top scorer. Kopayev ran for SKA Rostov until 1968. He then moved to the bench as an assistant coach and looked after the club until 1971.

National team

As a result of his success as a top scorer, Kopayev belonged to the Soviet national team in 1964, which competed as an Olympic selection in qualifying for the 1964 Olympic Games . He played a game in which he contributed a goal to the 1-1 draw against the GDR selection representing Germany. With his second title as top scorer, he recommended himself again after a year 's absence for the Soviet national team, to which he returned in November 1965. By May of the following year, he played a total of seven international games, although the game is not officially recognized by FIFA as part of the Olympic qualification. In the six recognized games he remained without a goal.
