Taras Mykolajowytsch Stepanenko ( Ukrainian Тарас Миколайович Степаненко ; born August 8, 1989 in Velyka Novosilka , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Ukrainian football player who plays for Shakhtar Donetsk .

Career

Stepanenko began his career at Torpedo Zaporizhia and moved to Metalurh Zaporizhia in 2006 after further positions in the youth sector . In 2010 he moved to Shakhtar Donetsk. On the sixth day of play, he played for the first time for the full season and was then used regularly. He won the cup competition three times in a row with the club and was national champion four times in a row. Internationally, his greatest success was reaching the semi-finals of the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League .

National team

On November 17, 2010 Stepanenko made his debut with the Ukrainian national team in a 2-2 draw against Switzerland . Although three more missions followed, he was not included in the squad for the 2012 European Championship in his own country the following year . After that, however, he also played regularly in the qualifying games of the national team and was part of the team that made the qualification for the European Championship 2016 in France perfect in the relegation in the second leg against Slovenia in 2015 . In June 2016 he was accepted into the EM squad of Ukraine . He was one of the players who played all three group stage games over the full playing time. After that, the team retired as bottom of the group.
