Silvio Narizzano

Silvio Narizzano (born February 8, 1927 in Montréal , Québec , † July 26, 2011 in London ) was a Canadian film director , screenwriter and producer . He has directed over 30 productions for film and television. Including for movies like Georgy Girl , Inferno am Fluß , The Biggest Crooks Far and Wide or Blutrausch .

life and work

Silvio Narizzano, born in 1927 to Italian parents in Montréal, Canada, received his education at Bishop University in Quebec. At the beginning of his film career in the early 1950s, he first worked as a screenwriter, then produced episodes for the adventure series Tales of Adventure and the series General Motors Presents in 1952 , before gaining first experience in directing in 1956 with the production Approach to Theater .

He made his feature film debut in 1965 with the horror film Das düstere Haus . Richard Matheson wrote the script . It played Tallulah Bankhead , Stefanie Powers , Peter Vaughan and Donald Sutherland .

A year later, Narizzano directed the romantic drama Georgy Girl , starring James Mason , Alan Bates , Lynn Redgrave and Charlotte Rampling . The film received very good reviews at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1966 and was nominated for the British Academy Film Award in the category Best British Film in 1967 . At the Golden Globe Awards in 1967 there was another nomination for Best Foreign Film in English . The review wrote: *

“Comedy brought up to speed with many of the fashionable extravagances of the 1960s, played lively by a sympathetic leading actress. An appealing film with a thought-provoking note. "

In 1968 he directed the avant-garde western Inferno on the River with Terence Stamp , Karl Malden and Joanna Pettet . The film featured fascinating and surreally photographed images by the cameraman Stanley Cortez and an unusual soundtrack by the Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis .

His other work for the cinema in the 1970s was the literary film adaptation of Joe Orton's novel Loot The Biggest Crooks Far and Wide (1970) in the leading roles Richard Attenborough and Lee Remick . This was followed by the films Blood Frenzy (1973) with Franco Nero and Telly Savalas , You do not shoot the teacher (1977) with Bud Cort and Samantha Eggar , The Class of Miss MacMichael with Glenda Jackson and Oliver Reed , and the feature film debut Choices of Demi Moore .

In addition to lavish television films such as Come Back, Little Sheba (1977) with Laurence Olivier and Joanne Woodward , Silvio Narizzano had also directed many episodes of well-known television series since the early 1960s , including episodes of On Trial , Saki , Maupassant , Paris 1900 , BBC2 Playhouse , Play For Today , Mystery! , Alleyn Mysteries , or Space Cops - Demeter City crime scene .
