Georgy Girl is a British romance film by director Silvio Narizzano from 1966. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Margaret Forster . It was released in theaters in Germany on August 4, 1966.
The title song of the same name by The Seekers became a hit and reached top positions in some charts.

Georgina is a 22 year old working class London woman . She has musical talent, a good education and a bitter charm, she is also resourceful and loves children. She thinks herself unattractive, dresses unfavorably, is unsure about flirting and has not yet had a boyfriend. Georgina's parents are employed by the successful businessman James Learnington. The 49-year-old man had a hard and loveless childhood, sees Georgina growing up and is like a second father to her. When Georgina, whom he affectionately calls Georgy, has grown into a young woman, his feelings change. He offers her a contract that will allow her to live a life of luxury if she marries him. Georgy refuses, Learningtons demeanor as a businessman leaves her cold.
Georgy's roommate and best friend is the superficial Meredith, whom Georgy sees as an unpaid helper. When Meredith becomes pregnant by her boyfriend Jos Jones, the two get married. Jos is disappointed with Meredith and starts a secret affair with Georgy. Meredith gives birth to a daughter, but does not take care of her. She is also no longer interested in Jos and plans to put the child up for adoption and divorce Jos. Jos and Georgy stay together in the apartment and take care of the baby, who has been named Sara. It soon becomes clear that Georgy cares more about the child than about the relationship with Jos. Jos realizes that he has no interest in family life and ends the relationship with Georgy. Now that Georgy is raising the child alone, although there are no blood ties, the youth welfare office is trying to take the child away from her.
In the meantime, Learningtons wife has died. Now he can admit his feelings about Georgina and makes her a marriage proposal, which she accepts. She wants the best for the child and enters into a marriage that is characterized by great differences in age and background.

Lynn Redgrave took on the role of Georgy from her sister Vanessa Redgrave . The film was the basis for an unsuccessful stage musical called Georgy . The theme song Georgy Girl was sold millions of times as a single and the greatest success of the Australian folk group The Seekers .
