Stefanie Powers (* 2. November 1942 as Stefania Zofya Federkiewicz in Hollywood ) is an American actress of Polish descent.

Life

Powers became internationally known through the role of Jennifer Hart in the television series Hart (1979-1984) at the side of Robert Wagner . With this she played in 1969 in the episode "Fire Magic" of the series Your appearance, Al Mundy together. She had previously appeared in a number of television series and films such as The Streets of San Francisco (1976), Bonanza (1963), The Girl from UNCLE (1966/1967) and Herbie Big in Drive (1974). Powers worked for many years under the stage name "Taffy Paul". In 1957, she was intended as a dancer for the "Jets" in the film adaptation of Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story , but was rejected by the producers, for whom she appeared to be too young. Powers and Robert Wagner met on the set of West Side Story when he was accompanying his wife Natalie Wood , who starred in the play. At the age of 15, Powers signed a contract with Columbia Pictures .

Private life

Stefanie Powers was married twice. Her first marriage to Gary Lockwood lasted from 1966 to 1972, her second with the Frenchman Patrick De La Chenais lasted from 1993 to 1999. She divorced both men, both marriages remained childless. Since 1973 she was friends with William Holden , which eventually became a close relationship until his death in 1981. When he died, she founded the "William Holden Wildlife Foundation" in California in 1982 , which campaigns for the conservation of endangered and wild animals in Kenya and for the necessary training for African students. Powers is also director of the Mount Kenya Game Ranch founded by Holden in 1960. She is also the international spokesperson for animal welfare.
