Oleksandr Wolodymyrowytsch Schowkowskyj ( Ukrainian Олександр Володимирович Шовковський , born January 2, 1975 in Kiev ) is a former Ukrainian football goalkeeper .
Career
player
Schowkowskyj is a graduate of the Dynamo Kiev football school and since then, with the exception of half a year at city rivals ZSK WSU Kiev , he has never played for a club other than Dynamo Kiev , making him a record player with over 300 games. After he was the undisputed first goalkeeper of Kiev for a long time, he had to give up his regular seat to Stanislaw Bohusch in the 2008/09 season despite his captaincy .
On December 13, 2016, Schowkowskyj announced his retirement from active football. In his career he played a total of 633 games for Kiev, including 427 league games.
He was also a long time regular in the Ukrainian national team and was with 84 games until October 11, 2008 record national player in his country, when he was replaced by Andrij Shevchenko . His involvement in the 2006 World Cup was initially questionable as he was unable to play for a long time due to an injury. Nevertheless, he was appointed to the 23-man squad by Ukrainian national coach Oleh Blochin . He also played a key role in qualifying for the 2006 World Cup, Ukraine's first ever participation in the World Cup. In the meantime he was 636 minutes in a row without conceding a goal, conceded a total of only seven hits in twelve games, where he played six times to zero.
Schowkowskyj then played all five games until Ukraine was eliminated in the quarter-finals. After the round of 16 against Switzerland , he was voted Man of the Game after parrying two Swiss shots on penalties.
In early September 2012, he ended his national team career.
