Channel One Cup (soccer)

The Channel One Cup ( Russian Кубок Первого канала, Kubok Pervogo Kanala ) was a commercial football club competition. The event was organized by the Russian TV broadcaster Kanal 1 , the Roman Abramowitsch Foundation and the Russian National Football Academy . Masters and vice-masters from Russia , Ukraine and Israel took part in the competition. The prize money was over $ 2 million.

Main objective of the competition

Important concern of this cup competition: The winner of the final undertakes to invest half of the prize money in the youth work of the respective country.

Venue & participants

The competition took place in Israel . There has been a very strong rivalry between Russian and Ukrainian teams for some time . This makes every encounter very exciting and interesting for the fans.

The first competition was held in Tel Aviv in 2006 . The cup was only played between the following Russian and Ukrainian clubs: CSKA Moscow , Spartak Moscow , Dynamo Kiev and Shakhtar Donetsk .

In 2007 the following Israeli clubs were added: Maccabi Haifa and Hapoel Tel Aviv The teams were divided into two groups. Both group winners faced each other in the final.
