Washington Jay McCormick (born January 4, 1884 in Missoula , Montana , † March 7, 1949 there ) was an American politician . Between 1921 and 1923 he represented the state of Montana in the US House of Representatives .

Early years

After attending the public schools of his homeland, Washington McCormick attended the University of Montana and the University of Notre Dame in Indiana . By 1906 he studied at the renowned Harvard University . After studying law, McCormick was admitted to the bar in 1910. He then began working in this profession in Missoula.

Political career

McCormick became a member of the Republican Party . From 1918 to 1920 he was a member of the House of Representatives in Montana . In the congressional elections of 1920 he was able to beat the previous incumbent John M. Evans of the Democratic Party and enter Congress as a member . This election victory was in trend in national politics. Also in the presidential elections this year, the Republicans were able to get their candidate through with Warren G. Harding . McCormick could only stay in the House of Representatives for one term. In the next election in 1922 he had to give up his seat back to John Evans. Overall, he was between March 4, 1921 and March 3, 1923 member of Congress.

Another résumé

After his time in Washington , McCormick returned to practice as a lawyer in Montana. He later also became a writer. He died in March 1949 and was buried in Missoula.
