LeRoy H. Anderson

LeRoy Hagen Anderson (born February 2, 1906 in Ellendale , Dickey County , North Dakota , † September 25, 1991 in Conrad , Montana ) was an American politician . Between 1957 and 1961 he represented the state of Montana in the US House of Representatives .

Early years

In 1909, LeRoy Anderson came to Conrad, Montana with his parents. After primary school, he attended Montana State College in Bozeman until 1927 . He subsequently studied mathematics and chemistry at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena between 1935 and 1938 . In Montana, he worked as a wheat farmer and rancher. During the Second World War , Anderson served in the European theater of war as a soldier in the US Army . He belonged to a tank unit that advanced from Normandy to the Elbe . By the time he retired from active military service in 1945, he had made it up to lieutenant colonel . Anderson was later still a member of the reserve. There he made it to major general .

Political career

LeRoy Anderson became a member of the Democratic Party . From 1947 to 1948 he was a member of the House of Representatives in Montana , and between 1949 and 1956 he was a member of the State Senate . Since 1954 he was the parliamentary group leader of the Democratic Senators. In 1954, Anderson ran unsuccessfully for a seat in Congress . Two years later he was elected as his party's candidate for the US House of Representatives. There he took over the seat of Orvin B. Fjare . After a re-election in 1958, LeRoy Anderson was able to exercise this mandate between January 3, 1957 and January 3, 1961. In 1960 he did not run for re-election. Instead, he unsuccessfully sought his party's nomination for the US Senate elections .

After that he returned to his private affairs. From 1966 to 1970 he was again State Senator in Montana. Then he retired to Conrad, where he spent his twilight years. He died there in September 1991.
