The Dickey County is a county in the state of North Dakota of the United States . The county seat is Ellendale .

The county is located in the southeast of North Dakota, borders South Dakota to the south and has an area of ​​2957 square kilometers, of which 28 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: LaMoure County , Ransom County , Sargent County , Brown County, South Dakota, McPherson County, South Dakota, and McIntosh County .

history

Dickey County was formed on March 5, 1881, and finally organized on August 18, 1882. It was named after George H. Dickey , an early politician and lawmaker in the Dakota Territory.

The Carroll House Hotel is one of eight entries for the county on the National Register of Historic Places .

According to the 2000 census , Dickey County had 5,757 people in 2,283 households and 1,499 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.78 percent white, 0.10 percent African American, 0.35 percent Native American, 0.50 percent Asian and 0.56 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.71 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.35 percent of the population.
