The LaMoure County is a county in the state of North Dakota of the United States . The county seat is La Moure .

The county is located in the southeast of North Dakotam, about 50 km from South Dakota to the south and has an area of ​​2981 square kilometers, of which 9 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Stutsman County , Barnes County , Ransom County , Dickey County , McIntosh County, and Logan Counties .

history

LaMoure County was formed on January 4, 1873, and completed on October 17, 1881. It was named after Judson LaMoure , an early politician in the Dakota Territory Law Assembly and a MP in the North Dakota Senate .

Two of the county's structures are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of March 27, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , LaMoure County had 4,701 people in 1,942 households and 1,308 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 99.23 percent white, 0.02 percent African American, 0.13 percent Asian and 0.11 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.34 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.55 percent of the population.

Of the 1,942 households, 27.5 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 60.5 percent were married couples living together, 4.0 percent were single mothers, 32.6 percent were non-families, 30.8 percent were single households, and 16.6 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.99 people.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.2 percent of residents under the age of 18, 5.4 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 23.0 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 24.0 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 23.4 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 102.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 100.7 men.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 29,707 , and the median income for a family is $ 36,495. Males had a median income of $ 26,351 versus $ 17,500 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,059. 14.7 percent of the population and 12.3 percent of families are below the poverty line. Of these, 16.3 percent were children and adolescents under the age of 18 and 12.9 percent were 65 or older.
