Ransom County is a county in the state of North Dakota in the United States . The county seat is Lisbon .

The county is located almost in the extreme southeast of North Dakota and has an area of ​​2238 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Cass County , Richland County , Sargent County , Dickey County , LaMoure County, and Barnes County .

history

Ransom County was formed in 1873. It was named after the nearby Fort Ransom .

Nine buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of April 1, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Ransom County's 5,890 people were living in 2,350 households and 1,560 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.93 percent white, 0.19 percent African American, 0.32 percent Native American, 0.25 percent Asian and 0.37 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.93 percent were descended from two or more races.
