Slope County is a county in the state of North Dakota in the United States . The county seat is Amidon .

The county is located in southwest North Dakota, borders Montana to the west , is about 50 km from South Dakota to the south and has an area of 3,158 square kilometers, of which 3 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Billings County , Stark County , Hettinger County , Adams County , Bowman County , Fallon County, Montana, and Golden Valley Counties .
history
Slope County was formed on December 31, 1914. It was named after the Missouri Slope, an area in western North Dakota, west of the Missouri .
Three buildings and sites in the county are listed in the National Register of Historic Places (as of April 1, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Slope County had 767 people in 313 households and 222 families. The population density was 0.14 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 99.74 percent white and 0.13 percent Native American; 0.13 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.13 percent of the population. African Americans, Asians, Pacific Islanders and other ethnic groups were absent.
Of the 313 households, 30.0 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 64.5 percent were married couples living together, 3.8 percent were single mothers, 28.8 percent were non-families, 27.2 percent were single households and 10.5 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.96 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 25.3 percent of residents under the age of 18, 4.2 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 25.0 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 27.6 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 17.9 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 116.7 males. Statistically, there were 117.0 men for every 100 women aged 18 or over.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 24,667 , and the median income for a family is $ 26,058. Males had a median income of $ 20,000 versus $ 12,115 for women. The per capita income was $ 14,513. 15.4 percent of families and 16.9 percent families lived below the poverty line. Of these, 16.3 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 8.0 percent were people over 65 years of age.
