The Grant County is a county in the state of North Dakota of the United States . The county seat is Carson .

The county is located southwest of the geographic center of North Dakota, is about 10 km to the south of the South Dakota border and has an area of ​​4,315 square kilometers, of which 17 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Morton County , Sioux County , Adams County , Hettinger County, and Stark County .

The Heart River runs through the county.

history

Grant County was formed in 1916. It was named after Ulysses S. Grant , the 18th President of the United States.

The Evangelical Lutheran Trinity Congregation (2014) is one of four entries for the county on the National Register of Historic Places .

Four buildings and sites in the county are listed in the National Register of Historic Places (as of March 24, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Grant County had 2,841 people in 1,195 households and 800 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.90 percent white, 1.72 percent Native American, 0.35 percent Asian and 0.35 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.67 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.60 percent of the population.

The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.90.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 23.4 percent of residents under the age of 18, 4.3 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 20.5 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 27.1 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 24.7 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 46 years. For every 100 females there were 104.1 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over, there were statistically 100.3 men.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 23,165 , and the median income for a family is $ 30,625. Males had a median income of $ 21,537 versus $ 17,949 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,616. 14.7 percent of families and 20.3 percent families lived below the poverty line. Of these, 24.7 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 20.9 percent were people over 65 years of age.
